Upskilling Points the Way...
From Trilogy’s perspective, the government’s announcement of plans for a Skills and Post-16 Education Bill could not be more urgent.
Our founder, Robert Wolstenholme, outlines why:
“The pandemic has bought into sharp focus the questions that we have all been asking ourselves about the future of jobs and the workplace, and given us a taster of the impact that large-scale technological change could have on the future economy. Now research from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) claims that 38% of jobs in England will change or be automated out of existence in the coming decades. If we are going to weather a far larger-scale reorganisation of the kinds of work we all do, then we are all going to have to invest in skills, training and lifelong learning.”
At our campus development at Republic, we know we’ve created a unique ecosystem that brings together education institutions, businesses and community groups. Here we see first-hand how these organisations and businesses can work together in the reskilling of people in changing professions.
For example this summer we will launch our ‘Greenhouse’ - a business incubatory space – in partnership with The University of Western Scotland and The Trampery.
We believe that workplaces should be places for interaction, learning and personal growth. If we get the balance right and build things in a way that brings everybody with us, I even wonder if skills education might be the saviour of the workplace.
Republic is a key case study featured in the launch of the New London Architecture report entitled 'Office Revolution'.
